ABERTAX and the EUREKA SUCCESS STORY

Intelligent Battery project opens new ground in energy storage applications Integrated electronics, interoperability between battery and charger, intuitive data interfaces and a clever new design concept are part of the recent EUREKA backed Intelligent Battery project.
After 30 months of collaboration, project partners Abertax Quality Inc of Malta and Mentzer Electronic GmbH of Germany, with research support from the University of Malta, have delivered an innovative lead and non lead acid battery system that gives users unprecedented real time information on the health and charge level of their batteries. This allows for more efficient and safe charging while saving valuable time and avoiding unnecessary maintenance costs.

CHARGE FOR ENERGY – NOT BATTERIES

A poster presentation from Prof. Dr. Joseph Cilia, K-D Merz and Björn Mentzer at the 12th ELBC in Istanbul September 21st - 24th, 2010. This paper presents the design and implementation of a wireless BMU solution which is a vital tool to enable the measurement of the energy consumption in motive power applications. The Battery data is continuously monitored, stored and analysed by a dedicated software which is able to take the necessary actions to ensure reliable and safe battery operation. The software is designed to calculate and send the monthly energy bill to the consumer while providing instantaneous messages via email or sms, to the maintenance personnel responsible for the maintenance and service of the battery as well as the equipment. The latest state of the art technology in wireless communication is utilized to transfer the data to the server. Results of a fleet operation using this technology will be presented showing that, battery rental and charge for used energy, is a very economic way in the provision of battery operated equipment.
